Pueblo Dog Show

It was dog show time today. We were up and off to Pueblo at 8am. In true Dew dog show style, we gave him a brush and were off. None of that fancy bath wash crap.

What totally cracks us up is that we have not really worked with Deacs when it comes to the show ring. How could we? We have no clue what is going on. We met up with Celeste, his breeder, than did a little work and it was soon time to enter the ring.

Today was a big day because Deacon is no longer in the puppy class. In the puppy class (6mo-12mo), they are more forgiving....like when the judge looks at his teeth and he whips his face in the other direction. Or, when they grab his "parts" and he tries to sit down on the judge's hand.

Well, today, Deac did great. He didn't mind the judge 'feeling him up' and happily wagged his tail as they made it around the ring. He was sure everyone around the ring was there to pet him, so he was a little distracted by all his admirers. He went up against another 12 mo male who has beat him in the past, but NOT today! Today, Deacs walked away with the Blue ribbon.

What proud parents we were. I think Brian startled the quiet crowd when he started clapping and hooting!

Deacon, and his brother, Justice, after the show....bored, perhaps?

Dolly Update

Dolly has a following! Who knew?

For those inquiring minds, she is doing better. Still timid, but coming out of her shell. Today she wagged her tail when we got home. Tonight she barked at Zach. She is becoming brave enough to travel outside of our dining room. She is brave enough for a chin scratch. She even was brave enough to try a treat. She also has learned how to use the door dog and thankfully, has decided that sleeping inside is much better than outside.

Baby steps....baby steps.

Grey's Anatomy

I love this show, I really love this show. Did you watch it last night? Did you sob like I did at the little old couple saying goodbye before the wife went off to surgery? Did you do 'the ugly' cry when she died and the little old man was begging her not to leave him?

How do you not think of your husband or wife in those situations? I certainly did, made me cry harder. Good news is that Brian isn't allowed to ever die, I told him so.

Baby action plan in place

We have a plan. A good one, I hope. One that works, I hope.

Next week, once Brian's "analysis" is back and cleared (which we know it will be), the doc is calling in a script for Clomid. I keep hearing crazy things about your hormones and Clomid....crazy moods, tears....ha, ha Bri, the joke apparently is on you...did you think it would even be possible for me to be more grumpy than I already am in the mornings?

She said we will give it 3 months, than on to Step 2 of our action plan..which hopefully you guys will not be reading about because the Clomid will work!

If nothing else, we will have fun trying :)

Court Date

So, I admit it, I had to go to traffic court today. I was a pile of nerves, my stomach literally was aching. To most people, it is not a big deal, but to someone like myself who had a car accident and a previous speeding ticket, it is a very big deal when you are faced with the thought of potentially losing your license!!

The entire scenario of the ticket was as mess, start to finish. It was a speed trap, I was at the tail end of it. When I was pulled over the cop told me I was going one speed, wrote the ticket for another speed, than told me that I was actually going faster than he wrote but that it is customary in the City of Englewood to cut a few off the actual ticket. What? He couldn't explain it to me either.

Than to top it all off, as I drove away, I realized I had given him an Insurance card with only Brian's name on it. Shouldn't that have rung a bell with him? Hello, I am not Brian Dew.

So, I had to march off to court today. Thanks to my not-so-stellar driving history, there was no plea bargaining and I plead not guilty (along with just about every other speeder in the place). I go back on Dec 8th to meet with the city attorney so I can explain the parameters around the ticket. I am sincerely hoping all the inconsistencies warrant them dropping my points down, let me pay some god awful fine, maybe attend driving school..just anything other than suspending my license.

And, at the end of the day, I really blame Brian for all of this. He was in New Orleans, thus making me responsible for driving to get the dog food that morning. He always drives to dog food...lets hope driving his wife around town isn't added to his list of responsibilities.

I voted!

I voted, and am ashamed to say I think this is the first time I've voted in a Presidential election. I didn't have to wait in line, and than drove to Starbucks for my free " voters coffee", which didn't end up being free because I don't drink coffee and had to get myself a shaken lemonade (yum!). Hubby got the coffee delivered to him instead.

Samantha, The BDew's voted 'Yes" on 51!

Meet Dolly, our new foster.

She is a 3 yr old Saint, who came into rescue with her 6 year old breeding partner. Their old owner died, and a relative took them. She drove them around town in a horse trailer, and the 6 yr old cut the majority of his pads off his feet from the floor of the trailer.. I was sickened when I saw his wounds today, he can hardly walk. Dr Winton had to give him morphine as soon as he arrived. We were all horrified at his condition. He is in good hands though, staying with Dr Winton...she, like myself, is a sucker for the special needs.

They both gave off a horrible smell. Lindsay gave them baths, the water was pure brown. We washed them down several times and the dirt would not stop coming. Disgusting. Anyway, I named our girl Dolly. She is terrified of me, the car, the house, the wind, the leaves, Brian, the leash, the chair moving, the fork I dropped on the floor.. even Deacon senses her fear and has not done any of his usual barking and play bowing, which normally scares the sh*!$ of our fosters ( and rightfully so!). Sadie smelled her and walked away...which if you know Sadie, that is NOT a normal introduction.

She will not leave the corner of our dining room. Deacon keeps checking on her, but she just hangs her head and looks the other direction. I got her a dog bed, but she has no clue what it is, she laid on the floor next to it. I went through Mcdonalds on the way home, hoping a hamburger would entice some sort of physical reaction. She licked it, and than buried her face into the seat. So, I was forced to eat it myself :)

I am sure she will come around. These shy ones are always the most rewarding to work with. Many thanks to Mel Haner who drove from Clovis, NM to meet Lisa Welch in Trinidad, CO to get them to us! Wish us luck. Thank goodness for organization like ours :)

Ps. Brian just walked by and said she is snoring :)
